Our various health insurance solutions

Belgian mutual health insurance scheme

Unlike in other countries, in Belgium, employers don't automatically enrol staff in a mutual health insurance scheme: employees or students are responsible for doing it themselves. With Partenamut Business & Expats, we make everything simple: we help you enrol, manage your compulsory insurance reimbursements (provided by all mutual health insurance companies), and offer over 70 additional benefits for day-to-day well-being (in areas like sports, glasses, contraception, psychological help, educational holiday camps for kids, etcetera).

Hospital Insurance

Even if you are covered by a mutual health insurance scheme, some healthcare costs can still be high. Want to stay in a single room if you end up in hospital? They will charge you extra fees, which can add up quickly. To avoid any nasty surprises, complete your coverage with hospitalisation insurance from the Hospitalia range, and receive full or partial reimbursement for additional fees or pre- and post-hospital care costs.

Dental insurance

In Belgium, dental fees can sometimes add up to very large amounts, and not all procedures are covered by social security. Dentalia Up dental insurance provides you with extensive coverage across Belgium and neighbouring countries. This is really useful, especially if you're being treated by a non-contracted dentist. You'll also enjoy coverage of up to €2,200 depending on the type of treatment, and up to €5,000 in the event of an accident (without a waiting period).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If you are leaving Belgium to live and work in a different country, please notify your mutual health insurance fund in advance so that you continue to be covered in your destination country.

Why do you need to inform your mutual health insurance fund if you're leaving?

If you are leaving Belgium to live and work in a different country, please notify your mutual health insurance fund in advance so that you continue to be covered in your destination country.

If you're an employee, a worker, self-employed, or a student and you're moving to another European country, we can provide the E104 documents for you. This document lists your periods of insurance, employment, and residence in Belgium. These periods are taken into account in the country you're moving to , in order to register your entitlement to health insurance benefits (this document could be used to be registered exempt from a training period, for example).

Note: some countries request this document themselves electronically (S040) via the EESSI platform.

Our advisors can answer questions about these topics when you tell us you're moving abroad.

The cost of health insurance in Belgium depends on the mutual health insurance company you choose. Enrolling, which gives you access to both compulsory and supplementary cover, is charged at a fixed monthly rate. This allows you to access Belgian healthcare with peace of mind, as most medical consultations, medication, and hospitalisation costs are partially reimbursed. At Partenamut, basic cover costs €14.75/month.

To complete your protection, you can also take out optional insurance, which covers expenses that aren't reimbursed by basic coverage, such as certain dental treatments, hospital stays in private rooms, or certain specific procedures. Hospitalia insurance is available from €4.11/month (depending on age), and Dentalia Up insurance is available from €4.01/month (depending on age).

Yes, there are private health insurance companies that can supplement your compulsory (or mutual) insurance. They cover costs that aren't covered by the social security system, such as certain dental treatments, hospitalisation costs, or special operations.

At Partenamut Business & Expats, this type of insurance is optional. We offer three levels of hospitalisation cover as well as dental coverage, with advisors available to help you choose what best fits your situation.
